Rainier College Counseling was founded by Deborah Cossey, M.Ed., in the fall of 2004 to assist students and families with the college planning and admissions process. She has assisted hundreds of students in applying to and being accepted by local and out-of-state colleges as well as gap year and alternative programs.  more... Deborah Cossey, Rainier College Counseling

Deborah received her B.A. from the University of Washington and her M.Ed. in School Counseling from Seattle University. She spent 27 years as a high school teacher and counselor in the Everett School District, helping to open Jackson High School, creating their college counseling program, and organizing many college workshops. In 2003, she completed the respected College Counseling Program from UCLA Extension and received a Certificate in College Counseling. She is an active member of the National Association for College Admission Counseling, Pacific Northwest Association for College Admission Counseling, Higher Education Consultants’ Association, the Seattle Area College Consultants, and the Learning Disabilities Association.  In May, 2010, Deborah was accepted as a Professional Member in the IECA, Independent Educational Consultants Association.

Deborah has been a committee member for the National College Fair in Seattle since 2004, has assisted with the Everett Career and College Fair, and is a frequent speaker at local schools, parent groups and service organizations.  Recently, she was interviewed and quoted about the parents’ role in college admissions in the February, 2010 Alaska/Horizon magazine.

Deborah has served on the High School Counselor Advisory Board for the University of Washington, has served a three year term as Membership Chair for PNACAC, and has received the respected PTSA Golden Acorn award twice for her contributions to students and school programs.

From attending local and national conferences, to meeting with college representatives, and reading current college literature, Deborah is continuously increasing her knowledge about the college admission field so as to best help the students and families with whom she works.

Courtney Cossey, Cossey Consulting

Courtney received her B.A. in Business and Public Administration from the University of Puget Sound.  Before her experience working in the public schools, Courtney spent two years in West Africa as a small business consultant and business teacher through the Peace Corps.  Upon her return to the U.S., she was involved in non-profit fundraising and development before she moved into the public schools to start her career working in career and college guidance.  She spent four years as the School to Work Coordinator at Edmonds-Woodway High School managing programs and operations in the College & Career Center, which provides post-high school planning resources and services to approximately 1,800 students.  Courtney hosted approximately 50 different college admissions presentations at EWHS every fall which helped her to build an extensive knowledge base in college characteristics and admissions details, as well as building key relationships with college representatives from around the country.  Edmonds-Woodway is a public high school in the Edmonds School District comprised of a student body with a diverse array of needs and interests in the area of post-high school planning.  Courtney enjoyed working with students in the rigorous, internationally recognized International Baccalaureate program, as well as working to formulate post-high school plans for students with special academic needs or challenges. 

Courtney is an active member of HECA, the Seattle Area College Consultants group and the Washington Council for College-High School Relations.  Courtney enjoys working with students of all background, interests and goals and has a special interest in helping students who come from disadvantaged backgrounds, students interested in Christian colleges, and students considering gap year or alternative international study options.
