Services and Fees

Rainier College Counseling is pleased to offer both comprehensive and hourly services to assist high school students in planning, selecting, and applying to colleges. These services can also be used to assist transfer students and those who are interested in other post-high school options including gap year, vocational and work programs. 

Introductory Meeting   Grades 9-11  $125
Designed to teach students and families about college planning and admission, this informative and fun 75 minute meeting includes:

  • Current information about college admission
  • Review of student’s educational and co-curricular profile
  • Samples of college resumes
  • Discussion of college testing, fairs, and interviews
  • Timeline for college planning
  • Plenty of time for questions!
  • College Planning booklet

Families who choose to continue with the Comprehensive Service will have this meeting included in their fee.

Comprehensive Service  Grades 9-11  $3000
Designed for the student and family who would like assistance with the entire college planning, selection, application, and financial aid process.  This service includes (but is not limited to):

  • Assistance throughout high school until graduation
  • Introductory meeting with student and parent/s including review of educational records, career assessments, parent and student questionnaires, and establishment of goals.
  • Development of college criteria
  • College list research, preparation and presentation to family
  • Instruction on effective ways to research and learn about colleges
  • Information about college testing and test preparation
  • College visit and interview preparation
  • Development of a college resume
  • Guidance and timeline for college applications
  • Essay information, brainstorming and review
  • Financial aid and scholarship overview
  • Review of college decisions
  • Optional:  specific assistance for students with learning differences
  • Also includes College Notebook and unlimited email and phone contact
  • NEW THIS YEAR:  Included in the Comprehensive Service is a three day workshop in the summer called “College Application Fast Start”…an intensive but fun way to complete essays and get a start on applications!

College List Service   Grades 11-12  $1200
This service is designed for the student who would like assistance in developing a college list and learning how to research, visit and interview.

  • Meeting #1:  Two hour introductory meeting with student and parent/s including review of educational records, career assessments, parent and student questionnaires, and establishment of goals.
  • Meeting #2:  Meeting with student to develop college criteria, discuss college admission tests and discover a variety of ways to learn about colleges.
  • Meeting #3:  College list research and preparation (4 hrs) and presentation of list to family (1.5 hrs)
  • Meeting #4:  Discussion of college visits, interviews and an overview of the application process
  • Also includes College Notebook
  • Further assistance with applications, essays and financial aid at the hourly rate or families can choose to switch to the Comprehensive Service

Hourly Service   For All Ages  $125/hour
Hourly meetings assist students and families with specific parts of the college planning and application process.  These meetings include preparation, an in-home 60-70 minute meeting, and a follow-up email.  Examples of hourly services include:

  • Senior Consultation:  Perfect for seniors who need a quick overview of college planning, review of their college profile, and suggestions for colleges and applications.
  • College Visits and Interviews:  Assistance with planning a successful and enjoyable college visit as well as preparation for on and off-campus interviews.
  • College tests and test prep:  Learn about the differences between the SAT and ACT, how colleges view admission tests, and the variety of ways to prepare.
  • Essay and application review:   Assistance with essay “brainstorming” and review of essay drafts.  Review of application before submission. 
  • Financial aid information:  Overview of financial aid process with explanation of terms, deadlines, forms, scholarship information, and resources. 
  • Alternative Options:  Some students need a break from traditional education before college or are interested in service, adventure, travel and internships.  I provide information and resources about a wide range of programs.
  • Students with learning differences:  Information, resources and support for the student with learning differences who is interested in attending college or another post-secondary option.
  • Transfer student assistance:  Specialized assistance for students who are interested in transferring from one college to another. 
  • Plus other consultations according to the needs and interests of the student
